Pilot Provider Frequently Asked Questions

Hospitals and laboratories are the final provider groups to go through this pilot testing. Medical, Optical, Dental and Pharmacy provider groups have already completed their pilot testing, and they have been submitting live claims via PAS since April 17, 2001.

We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ's) so as to address the most common queries about the Pilot phase of PAS implementation.

Q: What does it mean to be a Pilot Laboratory or Hospital?

A: PAS is currently in the final phase of the pre-implementation process. During this period, a select group of hospitals and laboratories will test the system by actually adjudicating online health claims in real health care settings throughout Jamaica.

Q: So what exactly do I have to do?

A: After PAS is installed at your location, a member of the PAS Team will train you and your staff to use the system. You will then have the equipment, software and knowledge necessary to begin Pilot Testing!

Q: Now that I’m a Pilot, do I still have to submit paper claims to BCJ?

A: Yes. The success of the Pilot phase is dependant upon collecting and comparing data from paper and electronic claims. Therefore, you will be expected to complete and submit paper claims during the Pilot period. Note that as soon as the Pilot period is over, you will cease paper claim submission, and only submit electronic claims!

Q: I usually submit paper claims once a month (or even less frequently at times). Do I need to submit my paper claims more often during the Pilot period?

A: The quicker data is collected during the Pilot period, the shorter the Pilot period can be. Therefore, you are asked to submit paper claims at least twice per week. If this increase in submissions proves to be a significant burden, contact BCJ and make arrangements to have paper claims picked up from your location. Note that during the Pilot period, you need to separate the PAS claims from the non-PAS claims when filling out your regular paper claims. In other words, you should be submitting 2 sets of paper claims to BCJ: one set that contains electronically-submitted claims, and one set that contains claims which were not submitted electronically.

Q: When will the Pilot period end?

A: The duration of the Pilot period is determined by BCJ. When BCJ has collected enough satisfactory data, you will be notified that the Pilot period is over and that you should stop submitting paper claims.

Q: Do I get paid within 7 days during the Pilot period?

A: No. The 7-day payment period does not take effect until after the completion of the Pilot test. During the Pilot period, you will be paid within the same timeframe that you are currently paid.

Q: What about technical support during the Pilot period?

A: You may direct any technical questions to AIS at 929-7395. Someone from the PAS Help Desk will be happy to assist you with your queries..
