Technology Has Increased Profitability & Efficiency of the Health Insurance Industry in Jamaica

Doug Halsall, Chairman and CEO, Advanced Integrated Systems

Technology and how it has improved the insurance industry was one of the issues highlighted at the just concluded 40th Annual Caribbean Insurance Conference, held in the Bahamas from June 5-7, 2022. CEO of Advanced Integrated Systems, Doug Halsall, who was a special guest at the event, presented on the topic: Health Insurance Trends in the Caribbean.

In his presentation, Mr. Halsall explained how online, real time insurance adjudication has transformed profitability, efficiency and the healthcare practitioner and patient experience. “The Provider Access System which is used by all the private insurance companies as well as the public sector in Jamaica has increased profitability and efficiency and reduced fraud in the insurance sector,” Mr. Halsall pointed out.

The Provider Access System is the only technology of its type available for insurance claims in the Caribbean at this time. The system has been in operation in Jamaica for over twenty years and has won several awards on behalf of its clients.

“We process claims through the system for over a million card holders and four thousand healthcare provider locations,” Mr. Halsall explained. An average of one hundred and thirty thousand (130,000) health insurance claims are processed each day through PAS in Jamaica, Cayman and the Bahamas.

The Caribbean Insurance Conference is widely anticipated by members of the Insurance fraternity worldwide and provides opportunities for networking, a forum for the exchange of ideas and fellowship among members of this industry. This year’s theme was ‘Insurance – Powered by Emerging Trends and Technology’.

Next year’s conference is set to be hosted in Jamaica.
